Willo and Roby
July 15, 2011 was a fun filled lunch at LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center. The day was themed All About Horses! We had a Filly Luncheon that included Pony’s, Pistol Pop’n Peas, Caramel Apple Slices, Haystack Cookies and Salt Blocks, which was ice cream. The dining room was decorated western style and county music was played. Each resident received fun facts about horses and horse trivia and word games to enjoy. A few employees dressed the part to join in the fun, but Willo Carpenter took the lead with her outfit. She had braided pigtails, a flannel shirt, jeans, boots, a cowboy hat and a belt buckle so big you could fry an egg on it. The residents thought she looked very nice in her outfit and a few even tried on her hat. As you can see in the picture Roby May enjoyed himself and tried the hat on sideways as well. It was a nice way to spruce up the lunch hour. Everyone had fun and the food was wonderful. Our dietary department goes out of their way to make every event during meal time special and does it with a smile every time.
Horse Trip!
Piper City Rehab took a trip to the Kahle Farm. Residents were able to pet the Horses and meet the new baby foal. After petting the horses, they made homemade Kettle Corn from scratch from a real kettle outside as the Residents visited under a beautiful shade tree. 100th Birthday Key to the City!
Ethel Tolliver of Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center celebrates 100 years. Ethel was born in Virginia the oldest of 9 children. her father was a full blooded Cherokee Indian and her mother was Scotch Irish descent. Her father worked in the coal mines and often fed his family with whatever he could kill or catch. Dinner may have been a possum or rabbit. She really was a coal miners daughter. Ethel told a story of when she ran moonshine. She said she never drank it, but she had to feed her family. Ethel’s family includes her son George, his wife Barb, their son John, and his wife Lori. John and Lori have a son Brandon and a daughter Angie. Mayor Tom Thomas of Sandwich presented Ethel with a Key to the city. Among the guests attending the 100th birthday celebration was Foxey from the Fox Valley Therapy Dog Club
St Jude Pancake and Sausage Fundraiser
On Friday, July 22nd the Staff of WRHCC held a garage sale and pancake and sausage breakfast at Peter’s Park making almost $1500.00. The garage sale had many items and Administrator Jeff Petersen whipped up pancakes. Many of our customers were children so the staff and volunteers became creative and made Mickey Mouse pancakes for them. Even in hot temperatures the event to benefit the children of St. Jude Children’s Research hospital was a success! Also that afternoon raffle winners were drawn Thanks to the many area business’s for their donations and to those who came and enjoyed breakfast to support this great cause.
