Capitol Visit 2012 by Legacy Estates of Monmouth
Monmouth-In observance of Supportive Living Week, April 18, Legacy Estates of Monmouth residents were invited to Springfield to visit with their legislators and the Governor to “talk up” the importance’s of the Supportive Living Program. Approximately 200 staff and residents around the State visited the Capitol where they spoke about important issues relating to the Supportive Living program and the benefits the program provides their community and the State.
“The goal that was set fourth was to create a greater understanding of what we do and how we positively affect our community and our State,” said Shaila Hart, Director of Legacy Estates.
Staff and residents did an outstanding job discussing the importance of our home and how Legacy Estates allows residents to maintain their independence and control of their lives while receiving the services they need to do so. Not only is Supportive Living affordable, Medicaid of assisted living that is administered by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services serves seniors and persons with disabilities who would otherwise be served in a more costly, institutional settings. “We as a supportive living saves Illinois millions of dollars annually”, states Hart. Research shows that the benefits that Supportive Living offers-socialization, keeping active and monitoring of health status-are key, positive influences for seniors and persons with disabilities.
“I would like to thank the AALC, residents and staff that took part in this wonderful event and providing education to our legislators on the benefits of supportive living”, stated Hart.
Senior Olympics Young at Heart at Legacy Estates of Monmouth
Monmouth-During Supportive Living Week celebrations Legacy Estates seniors competed during the 1st annual Olympics Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Monmouth YMCA. Each resident walked away from the Olympics with a medal for participation.
“The residents thoroughly enjoyed the physical activities of playing ping pong, shooting pool, playing air hockey, and much more,” said Shaila Hart, Director of Legacy Estates of Monmouth. Many thanks go out to Dave Underwood, Maintenance Director at Legacy Estates for planning such an event and the coordination with the YMCA. Also, thank you to the YMCA for allowing our residents to use the YMCA. Your generosity is very much appreciated. “The picture tells the story with all the grand smiles of pride and enthusiasm,” states Hart.
Supportive Living provides senior citizens in need with a highly satisfactory, sensible and cost-effective solution for affordable, residential living and support services. On Thursday April 26, 2012 we held our annual Volunteer Luncheon at LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center. Every year we honor our volunteers and thank them for how dedicated they are to our facility and residents all throughout the year. This year’s theme was “Our Volunteer’s are Soup-er.” We served two delicious soups along with sandwich rolls, bread, dip and fresh vegetables. For dessert we had the most wonderful strawberry shortcake. The dietary staff prepared our delicious lunch for us and it was well received. For their gift they each received a homemade soup kit for Chicken Noodle Soup. They also received certificates and thank you cards signed from residents. We had 7 of our volunteers join us that day. Stories were exchanged and conversations were had. We had a wonderful time as we always do with our volunteers. The residents always look forward to them visiting us every week. We couldn’t have a better group to join us at LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center.
