Palm Terrace of Mattoon
Mattoon Middle School band students entertained the residents and staff at Palm Terrace Thursday by performing several selections including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Tequila,” “Louie, Louie,” and “Wipeout.” MMS students walked in formation from Mattoon Middle School along Ninth Street, onto Rudy Avenue and then to Palm A venue. Mattoon Police provided an escort to assist with
traffic.
Palm Terrace residents and staff gathered outside anticipating the band’s arrival. The band
lined up in front of the residents and performed. After the performance, several of the
students said hello to the residents and introduced themselves.
Jessica Closson, MMS band director, said it is important for the students to
perform in the community especially at care facilities. The residents are able to
enjoy the music and the students are able to share their musical talents and share
their time with the residents. The MMS band has previously performed at other
local care facilities.
The approximate 20-minute concert was well received at Palm Terrace as
residents and staff cheered and clapped after each selection.
