Nokomis-rgbIn an effort to give back to our community and encourage local students to pursue health care related careers, Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center has established a scholarship to be awarded to a Nokomis High School senior who is going into the health care field.

The community has shown support all year for the nursing home by participating in the many fundraisers for our Activity Department. “This is our way to show our gratitude to the community that has supported us continually over the years” shared Kim Thornton, Activity Director at Nokomis RHCC.

“The administration & staff have been working hard to fund this scholarship. We have had a well attended chili dinner, bake sales, & biscuit and gravy fundraisers to raise funds for the scholarship. We are hoping that this can become an annual event and eventually be able to offer more than one”.

Interested High School Seniors will need to fill out an application to be considered for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the Nokomis High School Guidance Counselor office or you can pick up an application at NRHCC, located at 505 Stevens Street, during normal business hours. Applicants will need to provide their most recent class transcript and list the college they plan to attend, along with a personal statement or essay. The personal statement or essay should be a minimum of one page, describing the applicant’s involvement in school or community organizations and how they will benefit from this scholarship. The applicant may also list any honors or recognitions, awards for consideration of the selection committee.  Educational and career goals should also be included in the personal statement or essay and how each applicant will achieve their stated goals. It is also required to describe the impact you believe education has had and will have on your life. The deadline for the application is April 2, 2015.

NRHCC has put a scholarship committee together that includes Department managers, Nurses, and CNA’s.  This committee with consider each application including the personal statement or essay and will review the information included with the application.  The scholarship will be awarded based on a variety of factors including the personal statement or essay, community involvement and overall GPA while in High School.
