Kewanee, IL – June 7, 2012 – Officials at Petersen Health Care, who own and operate Kewanee Care Home, Royal Oaks Care Center, Courtyard Estates of Kewanee and Courtyard Village, awarded the winner of the Petersen Health Care Scholarship for Wethersfield High School.
Becca Mahnesmith was this year’s recipient of the scholarship that is given annually to an outstanding student in the graduating class planning to enter a health profession. As the recipient of the award, Mahnesmith received a $3000 scholarship paid to Drake University, where she will be attending this fall. Mahnesmith plans to study Neuroscience and eventually continue on to medical school.
“We recognize the need to support the continued growth of students that have a goal to work in health care, and our community,” said Mark Petersen, owner of Petersen Health Care. “Becca is an outstanding young lady, and we are proud to be able to offer her this scholarship as she pursues her educational goals.”
This scholarship is given in the memory of Robert L. Petersen by Petersen Health Care, Inc., which is owned and operated by Mark Petersen, the son of Robert and Jeana Petersen. Robert Petersen was a long time and extremely dedicated Kewanee school district volunteer as an athletic trainer, junior high football and basketball coach, and a member of the Kewanee Board of Education for 28 years, serving as its president for 7 years.
